More Gains for GNU/Linux, Based on Web Surveys
Usually at around midday (European time) on the second day of each month statCounter releases new data for the current month, illuminating some trends based on 1.5 days' worth of data. This month, for the first time in at least a year, statCounter did not release such data, neither as graphs nor as raw figures.
However, the Steam site shows rapid growth for "Linux" this month (for the previous month):
Notice how large a bump in March. Yesterday afternoon Liam Dawe wrote about it. To quote:
For March 2025 the overall operating system stats are:Windows 96.10% -1.48%
Linux 2.33% +0.88%
macOS 1.58% +0.61%
The main loser there is Windows. Let's wait and see what statCounter shows. W3Schools measures GNU/Linux at around 4%. Combined with Android and ChromeOS it's even more.
Combining all versions of Windows, Windows is still declining each year. █
