Greedy For Grapes

Microsoft tries to hide and belittle mass layoffs; its data centre business also flounders, so it issues puff pieces about some anniversary over and over again

Microsoft does not want people to pay attention to the latest mass layoffs, so Bill Gates pays publishers to spread self-promotional SPAM for him and every week Microsoft RE-announces that it turns 50.

As some more sites report in recent hours [1-3], the latest 2,000 layoffs are actually happening (not just being considered) and "it has not been long since Microsoft had shuttered a Shanghai lab—engaged in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things— a couple of months ago."

They kept it secret, so the media didn't report it until just over a week ago [1, 2]. Lost in the mist of Microsoft's PR deluge.

In the past 4 months MSFT fell from $455.29 to $344.78 yesterday - a decline by almost a quarter.

  1. Microsoft 'shutters JV operation in mainland'

Microsoft's joint venture Wicresoft will cease its China operations from today, a move that will lead to the layoff of about 2,000 staff, Chinese media reported yesterday, citing sources.

A screenshot of an internal email leaked on the internet, meanwhile, indicated Microsoft shutting down its China operations, though the technology conglomerate denied the report.

  2. Microsoft venture Wicresoft to halt China operations, lay off staff, report says

The move is in line with Microsoft’s decision to stop outsourcing after-sales support in China to Wicresoft, Caijing said, raising questions about how the US technology firm would service China-based users of its Windows and Office products.

  3. Is Microsoft’s JV, Wicresoft, shutting down China operations?

As per Chinese media reports, it has not been long since Microsoft had shuttered a Shanghai lab—engaged in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things— a couple of months ago.
