Web Surveyor statCounter Sees Apple's macOS Falling From 5.6% to 3.6% in Two Months, It Might Soon be Smaller Than GNU/Linux
Apple's "value" (faked, exaggerated) is back to "pandemic times":
The way statCounter works isn't a total mystery. It latches onto sites (consensually; except not with visitors, only sites) and then drills into user-agent strings. statCounter isn't great, but it's better than nothing. Steam (DRM) Survey is likely more complete, as it relies not on a crosscut but the entire userbase (rather than select sites); it indicates there are almost twice as many Steam "Gamers" on GNU/Linux as there are on macOS. That's what it says anyway, statCounter also can say things (without sharing the raw data for affirming and independent audit).
Here's statCounter this month (and year). See it on the side.
Whatever the "Ground Truth" may be, it looks like Apple is having not only "Wall Street problems" and even prior to tariffs (almost all components in Apple products are "Made in China") the market share wobbled downwards. █
