All Your "Github Projects" Will be Gone One Day (Just Like Skype)
Skype is about to be turned off permanently (neither you nor any other company can host it; Skype is centralised and proprietary) and many people fume because they had bought Skype "credits" (for international calls) and lost them all.
Skype is an example of what happens when one relies on Microsoft. Never ever rely on Microsoft. Pay close attention to Microsoft's history and why there's disdain if not hate.
But there's a bigger lesson somewhere in all this. Why are so many projects/people/companies eager to outsource their code to Skype's bad steward, which brought down Skype from a "market leader" to "something nobody uses anymore"? Now, do not say "Teams"; that's nonsense, it's not even a comparable thing. That's like comparing MSN to Skype or comparing MSN to Facebook.
Now, regarding GitHub, it's just a loss leader (losing a ton of money) acquired by Microsoft because CodePlex failed and forever shut down (most people cannot even remember it ever existed). Just like Skype, GitHub will go offline one day. Microsoft can never find a way to make GitHub profitable (nor did the original owners), hence the mass layoffs and office shutdowns. In terms of traffic, GitHub has declined, as did LinkedIn (also mass layoffs and office shutdowns).
GitHub is NOT free. It never was.
If you have code you wish to share and keep, then start learning how to do so on your own (or find people who can help make it happen). Git isn't difficult and GitHub is an attack on Git, it's not Git. █
