The GNU/Linux Site Formerly Known as "linoxide.com" is Back... as an LLM Slopfarm!
For a very long time (probably years) linoxide.com was not active. Its RSS feed indicated no new updates even though it was still online.
Being dormant is OK.
Just inactive.
Unless... or until now! Oh, wait. This is not what linoxide.com used to be about:
Yes, that's Windows.
Windows again:
What the heck is this?
The "dead Net" (or Web) theory manages to prove itself more and more each passing day.
One's other rational 'theory' might be: the Web will be so messed up and generally overwhelmed by/with spam and slop, so then (inevitably perhaps) people will just have to do in-site searches (limited to/tailored for trusted domains, e.g. WebMD), maybe DMOZ-like Web directories.
And no, social control media is not the solution. We've heard and also seen firsthand that X.com is rapidly becoming drowned/overflowing with spam, indicating poor stewardship, even willful neglect.
Big search engines are fast becoming dominated by spam, slop, and worse. Don't assume that you can trust Search Engines these days. Their business model is not about informing people. Many of the sites they crawl and promote are pure manipulation. They don't even seem to care anymore.
Cleaning/culling spam takes time and takes staff; staff costs money; so they won't bother.
linoxide.com is an example of a formerly credible domain.
So the RSS feed yields new material. All of it is LLM slop.
How very sad. Better for linoxide.com to go offline than to do this. █
