statCounter: Bing's Market Share Lower Right Now Than It Was When LLM Hype Began (With "Bing Chat")
According to this month's data, back in October 2022 Bing was at 3.59% and now it is at 3.55%. This is hardly surprising. Despite wasting extraordinary amounts of energy (partly at other people's expense, scraping their sites nonstop) people realise that LLM slop is undesirable. Unlike search that links to authoritative pages, slop produces misleading and potentially very dangerous lies, e.g. [1, 2]. Put bluntly, it does not work as advertised because it has no intelligence whatsoever.
It is probably just a question of when, not if, Bing and LLMs pull the plug. They're just too costly to run and their market share or 'clientbase' cannot make up for the expenditure (i.e. epic losses). If anybody gains at Google's expense in search, it is BRICS' alternatives such as Yandex [1, 2]. Microsoft tries to use politics and moles to compel the government to do something about it. Nothing else worked, not even bribes. █
