The Numbers Game: 50,000-60,000 Microsoft Workers Laid Off in 2.5 Years? And Debt Still Tripled Under Nadella.
We've only just mentioned (in passing) that it seems like Microsoft sacks about 50,000-60,000 workers in just 2.5 years (based on insiders' estimates). That's not counting contractors and such. The company is skilled at hiding what's truly happening.
To me, personally, the numbers that matter aren't headcount (companies just buy other companies to increase that) but debt figures like these (calculation methods vary). Based on this, under Nadella Microsoft's debt trebled.
When the media portrays Nadella as some sort of champion who turned things around for Microsoft it conveniently ignores what happened to Skype, Windows, Office and so on. There's only an infinite growth in buzzwords, based on book-cooking [1, 2]. Wall Street likes it, but who among the shareholders (Microsoft pays staff in shares, sometimes more than in actual money) will be left holding the bag? █
