Inviting the Founder of GNU/Linux to Events (It Only Costs His Travel Expenses) and Recalling the True Origins
Books and mass media rewrote history
Less than two days ago we mentioned RMS (Richard Stallman) going to Morocco (a long time ago) and a day later somebody online wrote about how to "Invite Richard Stallman to an event in Morocco". It said: "Hello everyone I would like to send an email to Richard Stallman, but I'm unsure about the best email service to use. Should I use Gmail, Outlook, or ProtonMail? Also, has anyone here attended one of Richard's events? Do you think he would accept an invitation to Morocco based on his character as you observed it during the event?"
One person then responded with: "You can use any service, but encrypt it with GPG. His public key is in their page (don't use keyservers). He would go to Morocco, but keep in mind his health issues could be a huge stop for his acceptance."
He is in Europe at the moment and his homepage has just removed the note about his availability for talks in Europe, so perhaps he is about to head back to Boston (or is already back in the US somewhere as he has no scheduled talks listed; not even in Germany).
Stéphane Dalbera has just posted this lengthy post in Microsoft's LinkedIn about the true origins of GNU/Linux. Here's a teaser of the opening part:
It's reassuring to see belated recognition or "Eureka moment" about what really happened because back in the 90s people told me "Linux" was a Finnish thing even though GNU/Linux only happened in 1992 (here in Manchester) and GNU had already started in 1983 (Massachusetts). █
