Openwashing of Windows, Back Doors, Persistent Surveillance, Keyloggers, Screen Loggers, DRM and So On

posted by Roy Schestowitz on May 20, 2025

WSL is not "Linux", it's Windows. It's Microsoft's way of trying to prevent people from leaving Windows. This week we see a ton of misleading (openwashing) media coverage, some of it from Microsoft itself, Microsoft-sponsored sites (you can pay "news" sites to lie [1, 2]; Frederic Lardinois has a long track record of pushing Microsoft propaganda, as we noted in the past), Phoronix, The Register (pointing out a lot remains proprietary!), several Microsoft propaganda sites, Microsoft media operatives, even Serial Sloppers (fake articles). It's a lie. This lie wants people to think that Windows is now "halal" and you're 'free' you install some "app" from Microsoft's app store. Nothing could be further from the truth, but this PR stunt has a lot of money going for it.

Revisit "Proprietary Windows Versus "Linux" News (Trying to Keep People on Windows, Never Exploring GNU/Linux)".

Do not participate in deceiving people. Also, GitHub is proprietary, of course!

In short, nothing to see here, please move along.

Also in the news: Microsoft Broke Linux PCs; Now Microsoft Sites Credit It With 'Fixing' What It Broke (a Year Later)

PR week at Microsoft. Lies and lies and lies.

Don't expect the corrupt OSI to weigh in and call out this openwashing. OSI is bribed heavily by Microsoft; nowadays it actively participates in attacking or diluting the brand "Open Source". Weeks ago it was promoting proprietary GitHub.
