They're Very Jealous of Richard Stallman and His Freedom (or Simple Lifestyle)

What Richard shows by his lifestyle and speaks loudly about—without filters—is the compromises that they are making by using, nurturing and promoting technology that is actually harmful to basic human rights and basic dignity.

One important lesson I learned in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 is that jealousy is very nasty. Malicious militants phoned my employer, committed crimes against my wife, and when she wrote about it they attacked her some more (I can endure some attacks; but why pick on women?).

In 2021 we all saw a bunch of GAFAMers (or "MAGAts" as Dr. Stallman might call a subset of them) attacking the founder of the GNU/Linux operating system, whose design we must attribute to UNIX. His work was actually a lot broader than this operating system and his accomplishments are very many.

Jealousy is toxic because it can cause rational people to act irrationally and even severely harm themselves (at the very least their reputation).

Dr. Stallman (RMS) is still around and he seems to be doing well. Despite efforts to replace GNU with Microsoft (GitHub), GNU is still the "standard" (for billions of computer users). BusyBox, ash, musl, Alpine etc. (or the "Rusted" things) are still "niche" in comparison and when we ran our sites on Alpine we had to add GNU for various functionalities. BusyBox is OK for very simple things and guess which licence (and compiler) BusyBox uses.

Some rather despicable people might get angry when we say this: a lot of the attacks on RMS boil down to envy. Instead of trying to attack and displace/replace him maybe try to become his friend. It always worked for us. I speak to him regularly and he was always polite to me. In the attacks on him I often see the very same patterns I observe in the attacks on my wife and I. What did she do to anybody anyway? Curated GNU/Linux news in Tux Machines? She was never paid to do this. And instead of getting a thank-you she received racist, misogynistic abuse, even malicious threats.

In a nutshell, the attacks on her reveal a lot about the mindset of the people who attack RMS. Because those are often the same people.

RMS said in a recent talk that he does not receive a salary. But RMS receives a lot of scorn. Why?

History, as the adage goes, is written by the victors. History won't be written by the "Cancel Culture". People who are way too busy trying to drag other people down will never accomplish anything of their own. Eventually they "burn out" like Hamasman and co. because their behaviour is inherently self-destructive. By the time they care to realise this it's already too late as the path of destruction is paved with bad intentions.

Sociopaths are resistant to introspection, but it doesn't hurt to say what they need to hear: Be good. Share. Berate bad, selfish people. Stop attacking people who try to protect society. You're not helping, you're just licking the boots of rich people who don't care about you and don't know you. Even if they ever hire you to reward you they will just use you, then discard you. "Fighting for Freedom is Much Better Than Fighting for Money", but many people won't understand this until their body is too frail to make concrete as opposed to superficial use of accumulated wealth.
