It's Possible That BetaNews Got Cracked, But Nobody Talks About It, The Site Contains an Outdated Old Image, No Activity
Almost 2 days ago we wrote about what had happened to BetaNews (perhaps half a day earlier), a site that routinely uses LLM slop to write fake advice about "security" (or to spread FUD about Linux).
Almost 2 days have passed since a very major incident, which includes data loss. Unless...
Well, what if they had no choice but to move to an old backup/dump because of ransomware, or worse, their whole server or the database was compromised? The most likely explanation might be, more so knowing that they're a Microsoft shop... they got cracked. And the current/latest image was too tainted to keep going. The site seems read-only now. They don't even explain what happened, which is more suspicious. The lack of explanation might mean it's so bad that they'd rather say nothing at all.
We looked around for explanations. We found none. We didn't check social control media (waste of time).
Time will tell. It's possible that they will never explain what happened to the site and users' accounts. There are legal obligations. █
