  • The Occupation of 2025

    The Occupation of 2025 has begun! The in-laws and the out-laws. My house will be occupied territory for 60 days. This is the First wave. They arrived yesterday afternoon. Second wave is in about two weeks from now. Hope I survive without incident.

    I have been preparing myself for these times, since I found out a month or so ago. Initially, I was like hell no! This did not go well with those affected, which pushed me further back into the dawg haus. I talked it over with some friends and eventually came to the realization that this was not a battle for me to fight. As much as I did not want this, my reasoning was all selfish and self-centered. So I have surrendered to this situation and the plane is now in flight.

    House guests were not really a thing in the household I grew up in. My folks did not really have any relatives that lived close by and on rare occassions when they visited, they were from out of state and only stayed a couple days, a week tops.

    There are various complaints about what passes for music these days: homogenization, where too many are beat quanting and autotuning and compressing and using all the same plugins and samples, or where distribution and track selection is centralized and has all the blight and rot one expects from an excess of Mammon—Payola, or AI innovations invented on the spot. With too much music, the value of eight hours, forty four minutes, and fifty three seconds of "Telemann Collection - Baroque Music" is fairly low. Don't like it? Swipe to something else. Another innovation would be to remove the swiping: pre-cradle to grave sonic sculpting based on biophysical feedback. Creepy? Probably. Corporate goal? Probably. Think of those profit margins!

  • How to build an uxn emulator

    I'm a total newbie when it comes to uxn and the uxntal programming language -- and programming in general. When I tried to launch the Left app (or rom as they are called), an error popped up in the terminal and the rom crashed:

    This, as noted by a member of the concatenative Discord server, has to do with an outdated emulator, and not the rom itself. However, the provided prebuilt emulator from 100rabbits' sourcehut page available by clicking the .tar.gz link under "refs" is not up to date, so I had to build it myself.
