Two-Thirds Towards FSF Goal, Richard Stallman to Give Talks in Europe
"Make a stand against dystopia," says this FSF page, "become one of 200 new associate members by July 11."
There are 67 left before reaching the target.
Seeing that several European nations are moving to GNU/Linux nationally (or regionally), this is not surprising at all in France:
While Android is the dominant operating system (in most nations), it does not respect users' freedom. So it is encouraging to see also "proper" GNU/Linux gaining (ChromeOS has many of the same issues as Android).
The FSF's founder is coming again to Europe in about 3 months to give talks. In his own words: "I will have a trip to Europe in the second week of October and I am looking for invitations for additional talks in the same trip. If you would like to invite me to speak in that trip, please write to me at rms-invitation@gnu.org with "october" as the subject. It is more likely I can actually go if you have funds to cover the additional cost, and a speaker's fee would be nice."
It's a bit of a new thing, him speaking of additional costs and "a speaker's fee"; usually he requests only travel costs, e.g. train.
Having just mentioned character assassination attacks and attacks on people's budget (which is what the cancel mob attempted against the FSF), it's not too hard to relate. Sometimes holding people accountable for such attacks can help. Sometimes it is even imperative.
The FSF need not become more quiet and shy but more proactive. Its movement is growing worldwide, albeit the credit is often misplaced and words like "Open Source" get used. █
