The Register MS Has Begun Using Slop Images
It's not clear when it started; but it's definitely getting worse
You can typically tell a site is already - or is gradually becoming - a slopfarm by looking at the images and funding. The Register MS appears to be running LLM slop as articles and more of its articles now contain CG (slop) images instead of photographs or artwork. I've long known and have moreover followed the site. I see it every day, so I can quickly spot the difference/s after 2+ decades.
2 days ago I noticed them talking nonsense about slop, after lobbying by fake industry charlatans who sell a lie - and who moreover pay The Register MS to participate.
Now, about slop images, let's examine what BetaNews became by looking at the latest articles (front page):
The Register MS is becoming more like this over time. The proportion of images that are slop is growing.
Worst of all are 'articles' about slop that are themselves slop (the text and images). They're "cheap" to make (the slop generators aren't cheap to operate though), but they have little actual value. █
