Microsoft said “GitHub and its leadership team will continue its mission as part of Microsoft’s CoreAI organisation.” But it's just an empty shell created earlier this year.
A week after these lies, followed by mass shutdown of "AI" datacentres and an increase of 15.4 billion dollars in debt:
Microsoft GitHub says that Microsoft GitHub will now be managed by Microsoft CoreAI. So GitHub is just some Web site.
What is CoreAI?
Good question, right? More so knowing that almost everyone's reaction was, what the heck is that? Well, Microsoft seems to have hijacked - as usual - someone else's brand and there's no information about the financial performance of this "CoreAI" thing. Microsoft just made it up, combining the latest buzzwords with a "core" and if it means code as "AI", then it's a lie because LLMs with code aren't AI, they're just a form of plagiarism. That's one way for Microsoft to 'sell' to shareholders the idea that losing money on code hosting is OK... because "hey hi" (AI).
In short, it's not too clear what Microsoft has just done except dumping GitHub - i.e. mostly a Web site that loses a ton of money (it always lost money) - into some mysterious new bucket with a fancy, glorified buzzword/catchphrase tagged/slapped onto it. █
