in which past me did not, in fact, overcommit (good job past me)
Present Me is notorious for committing Future Me to things that Future Me cannot deliver. Present Me is also notorious for not realizing this until Present Me becomes Future Me, at which point Present Me curses the name of Past Me for getting Present Me into this mess.
Such is the situation at the start of this school year. The first two months of school are always very hectic for me. I have back to school stuff. I have marching band stuff. I have every nibling's birthday within the same six-week period. It's a lot.
So when I realized Past Me ALSO committed me to writing not one but TWO academic book chapters due in that two-month back-to-school period, I said some curses. And then I read the proposals that I sent last spring, back when school was winding down, I was bored, and I didn't have to buy a single birthday gift for at least six months.

hi
I've been super bothered by things in life lately, and for a long time I used to find myself asking questions into a search engine hoping that someone else (another human being) has had the same thoughts. but now that search engines no longer search the way they used to, I'm not sure where to take my business now. Also I'm so new to the smallweb, are there any forums (except this one) that yall hangout at?

K for Katrina
Hurricane Katrina made landfall twenty years ago. It redirected my life.
My nose has finally forgot the distinction between rotting-dog odor and rotting-man odor. My fingers haven't forgot placing acupuncture needles in ears in vast circles of National Guardsmen. My hands remember writing in composition books data from the free clinic my friends started, 200 patients a day, 23 hours a day, sweating, sleepwalking, providing the first civilian healthcare in catastrophe New Orleans.
My body remembers New Jersey State Troopers who drew down on us clinic workers sitting in the night air behind the clinic after curfew, AR-15s with safetys off, fingers in the trigger housings, trembling with fear, four blocks from Will Tanner's car, burned on the levee by New Orleans police with Henry Glover's charred body inside.

still here
It seems to have been a month since I last tried to write. The last time I finished a logpost was half a year ago, and then it was basically all I did for a week. I do have a week now, and for various reasons it feels like I have to write.
I sometimes get the notion that most of my problems are just due to a lack of momentum. That if I somehow got myself started again, there would be a flurry of activity - writing, making things, research, life - and I would do all sorts of things that I've been meaning to. Arguably, this notion has been empirically disproven. For example, in june I finished my sheet music project of the "Five partsongs" by Ethel Smyth, after it had been lying there for half a year. It was exciting to find myself not stopping after the first partsong, but also doing the next one, and then doing all of them. But did this somehow give me momentum that I could bring to other activities? Well, no. Still there is this feeling that it should be easy to 'fix' myself. I guess that is an optimistic idea, in its own way. But I think, while I'm quite confident I can decrease the badness of things, it's going to be a slow process.

RE: On Google Ending Unsigned App Sideloading
It's true that in Thailand and south east Asia have malware that look like real app, but I think Google just use that as execuse to force devloper to signed their app. Look at Microsoft Windows, there are many `fake app` on windows for a long time, it still allowed any app to run. (it show popup that app may be bad, but user can allow it to run)
Other than sigining the app, Google MAY announce `pay to verify` or `pay to distribute` on sideload app too. You want to install your app? Verify it first. But to verify the app, you must pay us. From what I heard, that what Apple done with their store and sideload mac app. I hope google doesn't go that route.
Back to signed app, even Google push that update, in thailand, most victim of so call `fake app` are elderly person who not familar with new technology, and most of them are not going to update their phone.
