No, 4Chan is Not Fighting for You by Lawyering Up Against Ofcom (UK)
Months ago: Microsoft Lunduke Belongs in 4Chan
Hours ago in 4Chan:
Microsoft Lunduke is at it again, boosting a "For the Lols" PR stunt from a Project Veritas attorney. Working on behalf of some very toxic Americans (we don't use the word "toxic" lightly; see the screenshots above), he's now picking on Ofcom for trying to reduce if not prevent access - in the UK alone - to rather nasty sites. We don't condone censorship, but we can also understand why particular age groups should not access pornography and all sorts of other things. I, as a kid, found sites that I regretted seeing and wished I hadn't seen (rotten.com for instance, people shared that for "shock effect" as a distasteful prank).
Don't mistake proto-fascists for people who "fight for you". They don't. They don't value freedom. They don't like Software Freedom. They don't like RMS, either.
An old biography of RMS said: "As founder of the free software movement in the 1980s, Stallman has been the inspiration for computer hackers around the world, and these days the 55-year-old spends his time travelling the globe and speaking about his work. But despite this hi-tech pedigree, he is one of a number of people who chooses to restrict his use of popular technologies in a way that may seem contrary. As a privacy campaigner, for example, he refuses to carry a mobile phone. And even though most of his work takes place on a computer, Stallman only sporadically connects to the internet and purposely avoids surfing the web."
Hours ago we wrote about his upcoming public talk, quoting something he told us because he reads this site. RMS is offline a lot of the time. He recognises that there are limits to what the Web can offer him, even predating the "era of slop" (LLM slop overrunning the Web). It's not like there's a lack of sites out there; if the UK prohibits or limits access to particulars sites for particular age groups, then it does no worse than much of the US, where there are literally banned books. Whenever proto-fascists in the US point the finger at the UK saying "censorship" or "spying" they're being total hypocrites. The same dictators who say the UK should not mandate back doors in Apple "cloud" already have back doors in everything Apple and everything GAFAM. █
