How the European Union (EU) Fell Out of Love With Free/Libre Software
Lots of bribery
A longtime reader has just let us know about this 2025 paper. It is about the Business Software Alliance (BSA) and European Commission (EC), he said.
Upon opening it I quickly realised that it covers affairs we mentioned here many times before. And indeed, it mentions Techrights and/or yours truly 4 times, both in the body and citations. In the references:
Good thing we're meticulous with our archiving (and there are full backups running overnight). Those are very old articles.
There are even more recent examples of Microsoft's attacks. In recent years we saw Microsoft bribing the UK (not just EU) and bribing EU politicians. Microsoft bribes also people who previously advocated Free software; then they "change sides" [1, 2]. If that's not enough, Microsoft then bribes and infiltrates key organisations meant to promote standards and Software Freedom. They they start acting like Microsoft salespeople. █
