The Mind of the 'Hulk Hogan of UEFI'
The story in a nutshell:
- Matthew Garrett helped Microsoft engage in abusive, monopolistic behaviour, for financial (personal) gain, despite resistance and widespread condemnation from non-Windows users
- Garrett would then try very hard for over a decade to distract or deflect from repeated technical failures of UEFI secure boot, which turned out to be against security and all about Microsoft monopoly, as many warned all along
- Garrett would spend 3 years sending (from the US) repeated threats - via British law firms (several, not just Brett Wilson LLP) - to the most vocal critic of UEFI secure boot
- Garrett would start harassing and stalking family members of this critic
- Garrett would file a meritless lawsuit against the wife
- Garrett would make sure to attack the victims, already traumatised by the abuse, not the perpetrators of abuse (Garrett himself, projection tactics)
- Garrett would file the lawsuit in the UK from a US address (despite also being a British citizen)
- Garrett would use the First Amendment in the US to claim 10+ years of defamation by him is "free speech"
- Garrett would insist he and others are in the US to avoid being held financially accountable when costs are calculated (harder to enforce rulings against the abuser, who lives in another continent)
- Garrett would ensure there is a third party funding the lawsuit, so liability gets even more complex than just being based in another continent
- Garrett would hide the identity of the third party/ies to make dodging accountability simpler (while admitting he himself may be bankrupt/insolvent already, i.e. of no personal worth)
- Garrett would ask/invite a Microsoft/GitHub/GNOME/Mono ally (whom he knows and spoke about for years) to file another lawsuit from the US, using the exact same legal team, because merely reporting that someone strangled women is the real issue? The reporting was done 3-4 years earlier, i.e. out of time for any libel claim.
- Garrett would distract from the fact that this violent misogynist was in fact paid by Microsoft
- Garrett would lie about what happened, to the Court (the collusion, the funding, and the years-long threats not acted upon, i.e. another abuse of process). The lie (or lies) would be signed with a "Statement of Truth".
