What 'Hulk Hogan of UEFI' Could Learn From Jimmy Kimmel About the 'Streisand Effect'
Now that Jimmy Kimmel is widely perceived to be the "Nemesis" of Cheetoville - the one that the White House absolutely cannot tolerate or deeply fears:
The 'Streisand Effect' as a term and/or concept was coined by TechDirt after Madame Streisand leveraged lawyers to try to hide details about her mansion, citing "security" concerns rather than public embarrassment. As a result, she not only got more humiliation and scorn; a lot more people became aware of what she had attempted to hide.
That is the 'Streisand Effect' in a nutshell. Similarly, trying to shut down and in effect deplatform/silence comedians in the US may sort of backfire. Despite the right-wing fanatics who control some local news channels no longer showing the material (or "show", also "live") of Jimmy Kimmel, it seems like Kimmel has quadrupled his audience, maybe not temporarily but permanently. Even the right-wing blowhard Rogan, with a vast online following, has just broken his silence, siding with Kimmel on this. Kimmel stands to benefit from it.
Lawyering up is risky and it usually doesn't work. At the end, it merely serves to reaffirm what was stated that they try to hide. We'll soon be escalating matters some more. The malicious lawyers are clearly unhappy not that we had a death in our family; it upsets them that we point out they bully us during a funeral. █
