Drew DeVault Suggests "CoC Enhancement", Starts Trolling Projects in Microsoft GitHub
And it backfires immediately
So Drew DeVault has opened his kimono again, using Microsoft's GitHub (yes, apparently a competitor; it's also proprietary) to provoke the same people whom he demonises or defames in his own blog. In most contexts, what DeVault does there would be considered Internet trolling (he also promoted his anti-Stallman site in the same fashion, using sock-puppet entities). As someone put it several hours ago in Twitter: "The easy litmus test is that he hates Richard Stallman. Realistically, no one should have taken him seriously from that point on".
DeVault is just drawing more unwanted attention to himself. We cannot figure out why he wishes to do that, aside from the fact his Wayland project competes with the project that he is trolling.
Bad optics, man, really bad optics. Are you smoking weed again? (He admitted he habitually does)
Regarding David Heinemeier Hansson (DHH), let's set the record straight: We've told people for more than 10 years already (maybe 15 years!) that we dislike DHH and consider him arrogant. But even if we don't agree with him or disagree with his attitude, removing him from his own project despite him committing no crime or offence would be OUTRIGHT RIDICULOUS, even a dangerous precedent that would backfire on everyone.
The people who attack DHH right now may not realise this, but they make themselves - not him - look malicious, mean-spirited, vengeful, and somewhat radical. Even people on the left recognise that 'cancel culture' can go too far and discredit whatever cause is claimed to be advanced.
From everything I've read directly from DeVault over the years - more so in recent years - the man is not a leftist but an outright idiot with brain damage. His views are borderline anarchistic and his antics leave many people with a bad taste in their mouth. They don't wish to associate with this type of stuff. So he's isolating himself. █
