Slopwatch: Serial Sloppers, Google News Gifting Slopfarms, and Fake News/Plagiarism About "Linux"
Today's Slopwatch starts with the Serial Slopper, detested by many writers because he rips off or plagiarises their own work using LLMs. BetaNews got rid of him over this, after repeatedly catching him do this (then deleting his articles).
Many wrote about the new release of Ubuntu, this Serial Slopper just threw some slop image with mindless LLM slop to accompany the slop image:
The following site did the same to the Ubuntu release. My wife noticed it and skipped it.
It's mostly plagiarising Phoronix right now, with new examples like these:
All the above are being promoted as "Linux" news by Google News right now. It doesn't seem to care that it's plagiarism. It doesn't bother it that the images are fake, the text is synthetic, and even author names are fictional.
Google News has also just rewarded (with visibility and traffic) the following pair of slopfarms:
Notice the lack of diversity in headlines. The images are just slop. There's no effort put into it, but Google doesn't seem to mind. Google itself is a slop pusher these days. █
