There Were Several Waves of Microsoft Shanghai Layoffs in 2025, Western Media Continues to Turn a Blind Eye to Chinese Layoffs of an Epic Scale
Sometimes select Taiwanese news sites (published in English) or automated translations are all we have
The state of today's online media is really bad. It reports what other sites say, it hardly investigates anything on its own. Sometimes, like earlier this year, it takes a man with a camera walking into a Microsoft campus in China only to find a ghost town (empty building, thousands of workers sacked, ripped-apart banners) to issue a report in English/Mandarin that no mainstream media in the West would bother to even mention. We showed some examples of it earlier this year.
Days ago Microsoft had mass layoffs in Shanghai again [1, 2] and it is difficult to find any additional information about these, at least online, maybe because China suppresses "bad" news (Microsoft layoffs are not really bad news) or because slopfarms have taken over, killing the sites whose words they devour (reducing the incentive to issue original, accurate material). How come almost nobody even mentioned the Serial Strangler from Microsoft being sent to prison? That really says a lot about the state of the media, turning away important stories or whistleblowers.
So far this year, by our count, Microsoft has had about 14 rounds of layoffs. The running tally would be around 30,000 heads and we still have more than 2.5 months left in the year. █
