Many Developers Have Many Political Views, They'll Never Agree on Everything
Some of the smears come from people who fail to disclose their conflict of interest, e.g. Drew DeVault competing against Hyprland (in Wayland space)
Last week we wrote about Framework in relation to a statement about being ambivalent regarding politics or rather being left-leaning. Only a fool would deem Framework "fascist". Some people are dishonest about it because they try to defund people whose code/projects they reject (or compete against). They disingenuously resort to politics.
There's some press coverage about this, starting yesterday. The articles speak for themselves, we don't want to discuss politics here, but let's just say that there are millions of developers worldwide and not everyone lives in Europe and north America. People come from different cultures, they have different histories. Moreover, among those who develop Free software (including the BSDs and GNU/Linux) there are different religions, upbringings etc.
We do not have to collaborate with people whom we disagree with. We don't. But to start all those boycott campaigns and "crusades" in Social Control Media seems petty. Even those who do these "crusades" may find themselves in the virtual (digital) "crosshairs" one day. Not everyone agrees with them on politics.
A lot of this stuff is "Ethical Source" reincarnated. It's an effort to divide and destroy, not build.
In the context of the EPO, we've already seen attempts by Benoît Battistelli to "divide and rule", e.g. by calling some union leaders "nazis" (even though Battistelli himself had a Nazi past in his own family). It backfired on him; the workers were too clever to fall for his BS. They remained united, irrespective of their political orientation and nationality. █
