five questions for October (re. christyotwisty)
2. What films have you watched over and over again?
Hackers, The Crow and The Warriors are obvious comfort movies for me, they're the kind of films I sink into not even to watch, just consume to make myself feel better or more stable. they're ones pretty much everyone knows about me so let me share a deep cut: Spike Lee's 1989 film Do the Right Thing. Do the Right Thing is my flight movie, it's a film I love to watch but it's one I keep in my pocket to watch on long haul international fights. it wasn't intentional, it just happened that way and when I noticed the habit I started just seeking it out. For some reason it's almost always on the in flight entertainment.
it's a great film, masterfully shot, filled with all kinds of wonderful characters and dialogue, and it carries a really timeless message. I highly recommend it, long haul flight or no.

shibari
She inspires me to explore reality in a new form.
I've tried to tie some of my partners in the past, with very little success. One of them, one wrist tied to the bed post, lost her shit and started to chew on the rope, instead of using her free hand. It was a strange sight.
I've always been attracted to the art of shibari, but it takes two to tango. I knew the local store had some jute rope, which although not idea, has a great aesthetic. I counted by hand the remaining rope in the spool, 27 feet, and it sounded like the right amount of rope.

Testing out Helix as my new text editor
I first tried out Helix several years ago before I even gave Neovim a real shot. I’ve seen a few posts pop up about Helix this past week, so I had the idea to ditch Neovim and give it another go.
[...]
So far I’ve written this post and my last one using Helix. I really appreciate that Helix tries to include a lot of modern functionality without relying on plugins. Maintaining my config and plugin list was by far my least favorite thing about Neovim. Helix’s config is much more straightforward and there’s less of it. Not to mention it’s probably a good thing security-wise to not be depending on dozens of plugins.
One thing that concerns me though is that Helix’s keybindings are similar but not at all identical to Vim’s. It’s just enough to mess with your muscle memory. I do get the feeling that Helix’s bindings are technically better, but the thing with Vim is that you can’t escape it. Chances are it’s already installed on any system you’ll need to do work on. Time will tell if my Helix muscle memory will be a problem next time I need to do something with Vim.
