The Free Software Foundation, Which Has Appointed a 43-Year-Old President, is Looking to Add Another Board Member (or Treasurer)
Geoffrey Knauth, like Gerald Jay Sussman, has long been at the Free Software Foundation (FSF). He's near retirement age or beyond it (unverified information says he was born 1960, so he would be past 65; Sussman was born 8 February 1947). He's re-calibrating his life, which is very multifaceted (he's also a pilot, as a recreational thing/pastime activity).
I recently learned, based on somewhat of a footnote, that Knauth "who led the organization through a series of pioneering governance reforms as FSF president since 2020, has stepped down from his position as president, as well as from his positions as board member and voting member, as planned. He will continue as the FSF's treasurer while the organization searches for a successor."
A successor for treasurer or "board member and voting member"? It's a bit ambiguous. But expect the FSF to add more people.
The FSF did a lot of 'housecleaning' in recent years (after vicious attacks led by monopolists). So now it is more robust and disloyalty is improbable. There's a lot of mutual trust and understanding. █
