IBM Red Hat Has Re-calibrated or Adjusted to Bubble Economics, False Promises, and Slop/Plagiarism
RedHat.com is a parrot for stochastic parrots these days
Many people are leaving or being pushed out of Red Hat. There are silent layoffs (which after the bluewashing will be known as IBM RAs).
I've read all the Red Hat blog posts for over a decade, at least in passing (over RSS). They have several "official" blogs other than the Fedora ones, which the "planet" syndicates. In the past year about 70-80% of all blog posts were just "hey hi" (AI) something. It became obscene. The other day they even made excuses for LLMs as coding agents. How can any technical company reduce itself to such utter lunacy?
A couple of hours ago somebody wrote: "Moving on from eBay, I've joined Red Hat, where I'm excited to work on the AI Catalyst Platform team."
In Red Hat and in Fedora they only ever recruit for such buzzwords and hype. Some people rightly criticised this.
It's worrying. Given that everyone predicts the bubble's implosions (even the profiteers who built/inflated this bubble), IBM's Red Hat is investing in some yesteryear's nothing-burger.
This won't end well. █
In the past couple of years I’ve been working on various open source AI initiatives at Red Hat… Podman Desktop AI Lab, InstructLab, Red Hat Enterprise Linux AI, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux Lightspeed. We’ll talk about these experiences over time here. There is something I have observed over this time period that I must point out, though. (It actually reminds me a bit of when blockchain first came out, but I think there is a real there there with generative AI.) Here it is:AI is a solution looking for a problem.
Hype!
