Generation Chaff - Phase V: Censorship of Dissent (Painted as Harassment or Terrorism)
Nowadays, political divisions (real, perceived, superficial, artificial or manufactured by outside actors) are destroying online dialogue, poisoning discord. It makes it very easy to "cancel" or "get cancelled", no matter whose "side" or "wing" one is presumed to be on.
On the one "side", they say "the others" are "terrorists" or "communists"; the typical person on the "other side" would use words like "nazi" or "fash". This leads to a lot of tensions and, in due course, balkanisation.
Censoring people became very easy in this sort of "atmosphere"; one side bans or puts in digital gulag (or not a physical prison) the "terrorists"; the other side blanket-bans "the nazis".
And it's not just about people; nowadays every piece of software and the its Web site get spray-painted with those same labels.
Censorship is all around us now. The censors are all well-meaning people trying to "protect us".
