Who Will be Held Accountable for Breaking Ubuntu by Imposing Rust on Otherwise-Functional Programs, in Effect Replacing GNU With Proprietary Microsoft (GitHub)?
Predictably and expectedly (they also do this to Linux and to Git):
Earlier this year a 'former' (for life?) British Army officer decided to enshittify Ubuntu ("Ubuntu Becomes Microsoft GitHub" after decades of warning signs). It wasn't limited to replacing GNU programs; In March we asked, "Is Ubuntu Compromised?"
The result (in the screenshot above) speaks for itself.
To quote some comments: "That is what happens when you use unproven toy languages."
"They always knew it isn't working; GNU coreutils have an extensive test suite that the rust version still doesn't pass. They knew that is isn't working, yet included it in the release... I doubt it will be ready even by 26.04."
"Canonical's incompetence is a joke that just keeps on giving. No sane person would switch away from the GNU coreutils..."
Lots more in there. Those are not bigots, they're practical people who merely point out that a bunch of buffoons not only ruin Ubuntu but also every future distro based on Ubuntu. █
