Envy Makes People Do Self-Harming Things (and Harm to Others)

Productive members of society create things rather than destroy things.
Not all things are worth having.
Some things do, in fact, demand destruction.
Suppose that code - like prose and other readable things - could be destroyed.
But can one really destroy words?
How about projects? Can one kill a software project?
How about communities or immaterial things (such as brands)? Can they be destroyed?
Sadly, in recent years - more than than in recent decades - we've seen many projects and communities attacked and sometimes destroyed.
The groups doing the destruction were very rarely contributing, productive members of any measurable yardstick/capacity. Some of them just sought to advance some political agenda, even sinister agenda such as misogyny. Some came to promote some corporate interests and commercial interests; heck, some were paid by those corporations to do this.
But worst of all was the jealousy. Some people, unable to create anything of their own, simply decided that to spare the embarrassment and self-loathing another objective can be set; try to take everyone else down? Or drag and pull them down to their own level?
We intentionally refrain from mentioning any actors, companies, or projects here. Readers can use their existing knowledge and imagination to come up with concrete examples.
Online communities that can be deemed successful are built around trust, mutual respect, and collective accomplishment. █
"Envy can create rivals. Envy makes people do evil things. Envy can have a very negative impact in our lives. Envy keeps current and potential relationships from growing. Envy creates inaccurate judgements of other people. Envy hurts innocent people. Envy reveals the condition of your heart. Envy can lead to sin and serious consequences. Envy diminishes the enjoyment of life." -Simple Life Church of the Cumberlands
