Claim That IBM Has Another 8 Days to Lay Off 'Expensive' Staff
We've spent many hours reading articles and comments about this week's IBM layoffs, which we 'predicted' rather early based on potent rumours (they seemed credible and plausible based on what we already knew).
We've been seeing comments from people who IBM laid off after more than 40 years of service. We're still seeing many comments that suggest the latest wave of layoffs is focused on north America and people in infrastructure, some in marketing and other areas (there is no one single area). It seems like in Canada alone there may have been over 1,000 layoffs (some sites saw the workforce decimated to almost nothing).
Not only does IBM refuse to specify how many people are impacted; it's not done yet and as people are being pushed out [1, 2] there is also an invisible element (silent layoffs is the term used to describe these).
Maybe some time later this month there will be better 'guesstimates' of the totals (how many people 'left' or were forced to leave).
The consensus in comments we see is, IBM is a terrible place to work in, treatment of its workers is appalling, it's utterly foolish to relocate in an effort to retain a job at IBM, and it's foolish to join the company in the first place. █
