Being Absent/Missing From Social Control Media is Not a Sign of Weakness
Some people are wise enough to avoid it; some people are so gullible that all they have is a MElon (X) account or Microsoft LinkedIn account to help train slop (self-harm)
Phony controversies, polarising debates, divisive politics, and emotional knee-jerk reactions are what keeps social control media going. It's not addictive because it gives pleasure to users. To some, the aim is to feel more socially adequate (e.g. upload holiday photos to 'compete' with friends') or to promote ideology at the expense of all those "evil" people in the timeline/s, "trending" or whatever. As a game or a contest, it can be addictive. It's sort of like gambling or casinos, where you try to recover from losses but are likely to only deepen the losses (because the odds or probabilities are stacked against you).
The best way to "win" this game is not to play. Don't enroll oneself and quit the game if you're already in it.
This coming winter I mark 4 years since dumping all social control media, including all the 'free' or 'decentralised social control media.
Thankfully, "we" as in Techrights never invested anything in any social control media, so we were able to produce many stories and Daily Links.
Broadly speaking, social control media is for losers (who try to compensate for something that's lacking in real life by establishing online presence with phantom/virtual status); if you're still in it, you only stand to lose.
The sooner you leave, the better. The longer you stay, the more of your remaining life will be wasted. █
