Slopwatch: Many Fake Articles About "Linux" on Monday and Today

posted by Roy Schestowitz on Nov 11, 2025

Today's Slopwatch starts with a search for "linux" in Google News. It's particularly bad today. The following triplet all show up:

Slop or fake: VanHelsing Ransomware RaaS Expands Reach to Windows, Linux, BSD, ARM and ESXi Environments

Slop or fake: New VanHelsing Ransomware-as-a-Service Hits Windows, Linux, BSD, ARM and ESXi

Slop or fake: New VanHelsing Ransomware RaaS Model Attacking Windows, Linux, BSD, ARM, and ESXi Systems

To be very clear, those are slop images, the text is LLM slop, and all the above sites are run by the same person/s. Google News is stuffing its results with fake news from several domains controlled by the same faker/s. Also notice the lack of diversity in headlines. Can't Google do better than this?

We're also reminded of this from last month: 'Help Net Security' (helpnetsecurity.com) May Have Become a Slopfarm as Well

Well, today they have this article and the image looks like slop:

Slop or fake: GNU Coreutils 9.9 brings fixes and updates across essential tools

Also in Google News, the slopfarm WebProNews shows up everywhere and everything is fake (the images, the text, even the author names):

Slop or fake: GNU Coreutils 9.9: Stability Boost Amid Rust Rivalry

And slop about the lousy 'clone' (that isn't):

Slop or fake: Rust Coreutils Surge: Outpacing GNU with Speed and Security Gains

Some more fake articles about "Linux", slop made out of originals:

Slop or fake: Linux 6.18-rc5 Drops: Kernel’s Quiet March to December Debut

A Phoronix ripoff:

Slop or fake: Linux Kernel’s Microsoft Makeover: Embracing C Extensions in 6.19

Likewise/ditto:

Slop or fake: AMD’s Linux Graphics Surge: Decoding the 6.19 Kernel Upgrades

WebProNews is drowning out the legitimate, real articles. Google helps WebProNews fill the Web with fakes. It rewards or incentivises the practice.

Meanwhile in the slopfarm of Brian Fagioli:

Slop or fake: Minisforum MS-R1 is the mini ARM workstation Linux users have been waiting for

Slop or fake: Firefox 145 drops support for 32-bit Linux, marking the end of an era

Fake images, fake text, just like in this slopfarm:

Slop or fake: Linux Desktop Adoption Surges to 5% with Security Gaps Identified

Just like WebProNews, it is trying to make it sound like good news, then attacking it with "security" FUD using LLM slop from a dummy account ("MaK Ulac") and slop images along the way.

A lot of the Web is pure garbage. A lot of 'articles' are 100% fake.
