The Open Web Has Fallen, It's Just Chrome
Mozilla Firefox has officially abandoned "old" PCs. Its derivatives too - since they rely on many of the same components - will have to follow suit. This is bad for the planet, not just to the financing or poorer people who still use "old" PCs. They have no other choice.
Mozilla does not control Firefox anymore and Firefox is losing users at a rapid pace (more so this year). Mozilla wants us to think that "cute" new logos/mascots are the solution, not to mention slop.
Yesterday the sister site suggested moving to Gemini Protocol; it is very visible in Geminispace and moreover Geminispace isn't some "turf" of a single client (Web browser), there are well over 50 Gemini clients.
The Web is reducible to a "webapp" platform or hypervisor based on Chrome (Chromium and its 'branches'). Mozilla will never make a comeback, nor will it care about broad platform and hardware support. It's "game over" for Gecko and Servo. We cannot envision any other rendering engine (or "base") making any measurable headway. █
