Slopwatch: Google News Still Needs to Crack Down (a Lot Harder) on Slopfarms
Today's Slopwatch is a tad longer than yesterday's because "MaK Ulac" (pseudonym) has some more slop to spew out onto LinuxSecurity.com, basically a slopfarm:
The slopfarm of the Serial Slopper also had a couple of fake 'articles' about "Open Source":
That's based on other people's writings, such as "Calibre 8.15 E-Book Manager Adds Highlight Dates in Viewer" or other pieces. It seems like a form of plagiarism using LLMs.
The Serial Slopper thinks he's being clever, but he fools nobody at this point. BetaNews has already sacked him for his slop.
Google News and its prolific slopfarm that's boosted every day:
A lot of the above seems like ripoffs of Phoronix, including at least one of the "new" ones below:
All the above are from the same day, the past day.
The modus operandi of this slopfarm tends to be, run some LLMs over Phoronix, produce some reworded "summary" fused with other word salads, then prompt for some barely related fake image. Phoronix will then be ranked lower than these ripoffs in Google News.
The main problem here is that Google News is rewarding slopfarms and hence gives some incentive to create more of them. █
