"Buy Nothing Day", Give to the Free Software Foundation (FSF) Instead
Happy Thanksgiving Day message
The founder of the FSF (Richard Stallman aka rms) is turning 73 in a few months. "Richard Stallman has cancer," his homepage says. Despite cancer, his organisation goes on and he goes to many places around the world to give speeches. He attracts vast crowds; they're interested in what he has to say.
IBM or Red Hat no longer sponsor the FSF (they're too busy laying off their own staff this Thanksgiving [1, 2]) and what little the FSF still receives comes from members - over 52,000 US dollars so far in this wintertime campaign:
The FSF is transparent about how its money gets used.
If you thought about participating in a shopping ritual this Thanksgiving, well... consider instead making the FSF stronger.
To be clear and to avoid any doubt, we're in no way associated with or affiliated with the FSF, we just support what the FSF does and we recognise its importance. █
