Plausible Claim That IBM Advertises Fake Jobs to Marginalise Lawsuits Over Age Discrimination
Months ago: Why Government Data on "Job Openings" is Typically a Lie (Perpetrated in Part by Corporations)
In recent hours:

A job advertised does not imply such a job exists. An "opening" might be reserved for an insider, someone overseas (outsourcing/offshoring), or be pure fiction to bolster a company's self-projection of good standing, corporate well-being etc. That helps boost morale internally and fool the market (e.g. partners and clients, externally).
At IBM, fake openings seems to have found another purpose. As someone put it 5 hours ago, "emails being sent [to former and laid off IBM staff are meant] to counter upcoming lawsuits for age discrimination during the recent layoffs. It is a desperate act that will not hold. Lawyers will eat IBM alive."
Very interesting an HR trick (if true). █
