Reflections on a Month of Techrights Search
Techrights Search was launched 4 weeks ago after it had been tested for about 4 months. Since then we've seen that many people use it and some openly say that they find it useful (we sometimes get told so in IRC).
Since midnight today (it's only 4AM) there have been close to 400 searches made, but sadly many come from bots, notably "ArchiveTeam ArchiveBot" - whatever that is!
Techrights can still cope with the extra burden of bots, but searches aren't static pages. At the moment on the server:
load average: 0.01, 0.03, 0.03
Don't be misled. Low load or short queues don't mean no traffic, it just means efficiency.
So it looks like we've survived nearly a month without the search functionality being leveraged to stage DDoS attacks. █
