For New PCs and for Old (or Retro) PCs the Increased Cost of System Memory Benefits GNU/Linux and BSDs
This server is lean and mean. It barely uses RAM and CPU. Its main weakness is the network*.
There have been many headlines lately about RAM prices or prices of storage in general (especially the "newer" storage modalities). We included several of those in our Daily Links. When one kind of memory "runs out" there is growing demand for the other/s, so prices 'adjust' upwards. There's no escaping the fact that system memory is getting expensive. Some of the media blames slop and some people dispute this narrative.
This trend is certainly beneficial to GNU/Linux.
Why?
Obviously!
Computers that need more RAM because of a bloated OS that's 'inside' them are becoming a lot more expensive.
Alternatively, for those who try to upgrade their OS, assuming additional RAM is required, costs can be prohibitive.
GNU/Linux does not have this problem or barely has this problem. █
