On Impermanence
Most of my life, I struggled with the concept of impermanence.
I have a vivid memory of the disappearnace of Jell-O Pudding Pops and the angst it caused me. I can't recall when I first ate one, probably when Cosby was hawking them in the 1980s. I do remember buying them often while grocery shopping with my then-wife in our mid-twenties. Yet one day (the best the Internet can tell me was "during the 1990s"), they were simply gone from the freezer aisle, and I haven't tasted one in likely 30 years.
I remember being irritated by the unceremonious discontinuation, and maybe even a little hurt by it. How could something that had been there for so long (a few decades) just disappear overnight? How is that fair to the world? And, importantly, how is that fair to *me*?

The Homies: Salt and Thermometer
Well it's nice when my grandma and my family say like 16 times "Wow that pork roast was really freaking delicious and so moist and perfectly cooked". Thanks guys. I owe it all to the homies Salt and Thermometer. (The rub was pretty good too. My grandma took a bite and asked me pointedly 'what did you put on this?' - I hadn't tried it yet so I couldn't tell if it was a good or bad subtext. Just black pepper, rubbed sage and some rosemary from the garden chopped up real fine. Well she loved it. She doesn't typically eat meat other than turkey (bc it's a superfood) but (a) she's 99 she gotta get her protein where she can and (b) I don't fuck about with my meat endpoints)

TV Detox 2
I didn't think it would be such a radical change in my life to not sit in front of the tv each night. I mean, I used to do that every night, like an alcoholic, or a drug addict, I needed that fix.
I think about it 40 times during the day. In the evening, I get to the stairs to go up to the screen. I stop myself.
I had a midnight snack yesterday, then had a shiver of pleasure thinking I'd eat that in front of the tv. It's weird, and it grosses me out how much of a habit I have.

Removing my "normie" browser
Today I decided to uninstall my "normal" browser, Vivaldi. Why? Because it had the most annoying bug on YT that I can't figure out: I like to watch my videos at 2x speed. It just makes things better 90% of the time. Sometimes, especially when I'm going for music, I'll need to slow it down to 1x. No big deal, right?
Wrong. There is some persistent fucking caching issue where it only shows me Custom, 1x, and 4x (a premium feature) in the speed menu. Once I turn it down to 1x, I can't turn it back to 2x. I have to either reload the page or open it in a new window to fix it...for that video. It started driving me nuts, so much so that instead of dealing with YT's horseshit any longer, I just decided to update Freetube.
