The EPO's leadership has long been drunk. Consider Benoît Battistelli. We covered examples many years ago. Whether António Campinos got drunk on (or before) the plane, then ejected we don't know for sure. The report about that incident left out names. A past chief of IBM has a similar tale about him (from the Nixon era). But you see, doing illegal drugs and drinking too much alcohol isn't the same thing, especially when you're a lawyer claiming to practice law and working in an office that claims to be about law.
Now consider what Campinos and Berenguer are and what they studied. Consider how close they are (personally and professionally). Next month we'll tell how people close to Campinos saw (directly) likely indications of cocaine use. Set aside the years-old rumours about him being an addict. For now, in order to keep our arguments more tidy, let's focus on Berenguer.
An insider tells us that it's not like Berenguer "just tried" cocaine and unfortunately (by mere coincidence) got caught by cops. It was gonna happen sooner or later. It's a total disgrace that press all over Europe is still trying to cover this up! What does this tell us about freedom of the press in Europe? I'm personalty deeply disgusted by what European media became; this includes Britain, where The Register UK became The Register MS (Microsoft took control) and the only writer who covered EPO scandals left some years ago (the Editor in Chief personally told me this).
Who's left to cover EPO scandals, corruption, fraud, crime etc etc?
"Berenguer has a long history of alcohol and substance abuse in the office" I got told. "Until the Oktoberfest, he was sane enough to not do it publicly, but you could often smell the alcohol in his breath, or see the effect of cocaine in his enlarged pupils or when he licks the area around his upper lip repeatedly after having been to the restroom. The whole communication department knows it but cannot speak out for the fear of risking their positions."
Well, this is what happens now that the Office is run by "the Mafia" and even the most polite critics receive threats, in direct defiance of rights they possess and are meant to be protected by ILO. █
