Of Course GNU/Linux Has Reached All-Time High in Africa in 2026
Africa is one of the largest continents (the maps we made in Europe are misleading in this regard [1, 2]) and it's home to a lot of people. Many of them use phones, typically Android or some old models. Among users of laptops (or desktop-type devices, not consoles) the share of GNU/Linux is modest and increasing. See, "hey hi PCs" aren't something that's really meant to sell in Africa. Microsoft just doesn't care about "old" devices and "poor" people*. That's why Africa will, on average, gravitate towards Free software or whatever costs less. █

* Aside from maps' distortion of the perception of Africa's size there's also an effort to associate poverty with fiat currencies, possessions etc. (Western measures of affluence), even if Africa is rich in culture, resources etc. It's where human life began and where it's likely to endure after the West nukes itself because of greed and lust for power.
