Leaving the United States 3 Years Ago Was the Best Decision We Made
About 3 years ago - after a year-long preparation - we abandoned the United States in favour of our home country, which is vastly better at free speech despite lacking the First Amendment (which even the US no longer honours, it's just blackmailing people and arresting journalists).
This migration predated the predators from Microsoft filing SLAPPs against us. It would lower our hosting bills, it would make or less dependent on one sysadmin's mood swings, and it would significantly lessen downtime. In the past we had to spend several months repeatedly reporting file system problems before anything was done about it (at that point, many files already got damaged and we spent weeks restoring those damaged files from offsite backups, then re-testing individually).
With British hosting (not GAFAM), not everything is immaculate, but things have been a lot better. The hosting is a lot more reliable. Uptime has been excellent.
Yesterday there was a short network outage/issue. We got notified (headsup) in advance and we hardly noticed it. The site, the capsule, Git and IRC remained online throughout. It was finally resolved just before 5PM:

Update - Our supplier has completed the remedial work and confirmed the fix is in place. The network is no longer at risk. We will continue to monitor the link overnight as a precaution.

Update - Our supplier has identified the root cause and is undertaking remedial work to address the underlying issue. The network remains at risk at this time.

Investigating - We are investigating an issue on one link between our Reading Datacentre and London, this link is currently down and therefore the network should be considered at-risk.
We are engaging with our upstream supplier to determine a root cause and implement a fix.

We are generally satisfied with our current hosting arrangements and have no plans of exploring alternatives. Funnily enough, it's a company connected to the same webhost that has handled my personal site since 2004. A lot of stuff is being consolidated. Life is easier now. █
