    I woke up from a bad dream about my daughter.

    I'm worried, and it transpire into my dream time. I couldn't get back to sleep, not so much from worries, but from not being tired anymore. My sleep pattern is unbalanced.

    At the theater practice yesterday I chatted with a girl, I found some dumb things to talk about. She liked the interaction, came back later at the end of the practice to talk a bit more. I felt we were both a bit dorky about our way of approaching each other. I liked it though. Everyone is in a relation in the troupe, except for 3 of us singles. It makes hard to be subtle when 2 singles talks together.

    I think I have everything... I wish I knew more of what will be required? Does the Outpost provide tables for my shop? What about money and cash register? There's so much unknown there. Plants? I should have though about plants!! Oh wait, they might be forbidden in case they bring nasty stuff. Can I have pets? Should I rush to the nearest shelter to get myself a cat? Would it be fair for the little furball to leave the planet without any choice?

    Pseudonymous maker "SeeNoFutur3," hereafter simply "Future," has presented his daughter with a gift — hidden inside a wooden box unlockable only by solving a gyroscopic puzzle.

    "I made a riddle for my daughter," Future explains of the project. "She has to find the right combination of tilts and turns for the box to open. Progress is visualized with a LED ring that shines through the wood. A reed switch is implemented for programming mode. You hold a magnet on one edge of the box and switch it on. Box unlocks and led ring gets blue. You remove the magnet and tilt and turn the box how you like it. It's saved in EEPROM. When you hold the magnet on the edge again programming is finished."

    • Towards a Gemini Famicom Resource

      I've been into Nintendo's Famicom platform lately. It has a great appeal to someone who's continual disillusionment with modern software and modern software platforms grows stronger with every passing day. It's also, unsurprisingly, a tangled rats-nest of unverfified assumptions, cargo-cult programming and other such products of any homebrew effort on a largely proprietary platform.

      Cutting through the fog of popular misinformation are resources like the NESDev wiki, whose continual evolution has largely been towards the creation of a comprehensive resource for verified, useful data for all those interested in the various facets of the platform, whether that be developing games, developing emulators, or just sheer curiosity.

    • Moving Away From The Cloud

      About 6 years ago I embarked on a journey to try out "serverless" computing and ended up building a bespoke microblog called Thoughts[1] (internally vociferate[2]). I deployed this to Azure functions because at the time they were the only option for Python development and I absolutely loathe writing JavaScript. When I spun up my Gemini capsule one of the features it launched with was a copy of my microblog[3].

      This is... exceedingly stupid. Also, continuing to use Microsoft Azure, even to the tune of $0.20 / month or so is increasingly distasteful. I spent some time recently re-implementing vociferate in Flask and have replaced the Azure function version. I took the opportunity to implement some additional features that I never got around to (in part because implementing this in Python is much more palatable to me than JavaScript). While the attachment URLs will all change, the actual Thoughts (microblog posts) will not. I dropped the app right on top of the directory on my webserver that houses the generated files.
