Keeping Techrights Online 99.99% of the Time
Misogynistic attacks will be covered later this year
This morning the two-week-long scheduled maintenance was completed at the datacentre and we experienced no noticeable downtime even though the other day the site was very slow or inaccessible for a few minutes. This may have been due to bursts of requests akin to DDoS.
We don't use several servers in parallel (with a load-balancing mechanism), so it's expected short downtimes will occasionally happen (e.g. reboots).

This is a lot better than in 2023 and 2024. Back then some maintenance windows forced the site and IRC network offline for as much as 20 minutes.
We're very pleased with the current hosting arrangement; since 2008 or 2009 volunteers in our community ran the servers and donated their time to the cause; they were in effect owners/admins of the site, but without editorial control.
Some time later this year we'll tell a very long story about how extremists attacked our webhosts and show how the webhosts responded. Never underestimate the behaviour of clinically insane people, who think that harassing people - and women in particular - is "for the lols". █
