Conde Nast reposts a 2023 article... this week. And even the comments are a giveaway (ZDNet does the same thing, for what it's worth):

Some former news sites became marketing sites. Heck, Conde Nast is a marketing company, as is Red Ventures, which now runs ZDNet.
Put bluntly, the Web is fast becoming pure trash. Even Reddit is marketing. A lot of threads in Reddit are marketing spam disguised as legitimate "content". Microsoft, as usual, pays people to post in Reddit.
Not only LLM slop is the issue. The Web is fast becoming a burial ground for ads, trash, spam, AstroTurfing, and slop. █
