Reminder: Microsoft silent Layoffs by RTO (Commute Time and Lack of Comfort/Work Satisfaction) Already in Effect This Year
It's difficult to measure how many employees have already "left on their own" due to the RTO policy
Days ago from a Microsoft-funded [1, 2] publisher:

There are some rumours this week of a hiring freeze at Microsoft as well as silent layoffs [1, 2, 3] (that Microsoft does not always manage to keep silent).
An element few speak about (or still remember; the mainstream media or what's left of it rarely mentions it anymore) is RTO, or return-to-office; at Amazon and IBM, for example, many "Expensive" (read: Experienced) workers are discarded that way. They tend to have less patience for nonsense like this, either because they can retire early or look for employment elsewhere. But the net effect is, all workers suffer and the stress levels increase. It does not improve productivity, but companies like it when people resign and need not be paid compensation/severance (this way they reduce "headcount" on the 'cheap').
Don't expect Amazon-owned media (Bezos owns Washington Post) to speak against RTO. It'll do the opposite. Some people are noticing that. The same goes for Microsoft-sponsored or IBM-sponsored media. Gaslighting can be a business model. █
