Fedora Badges System Shows the Demise of Fedora Under IBM
An hour ago: IBM is Sunsetting Red Hat, It Only Uses the Brand and the Shell
Fedora badges are like NFTs; it's how Red Hat - and now IBM - "rewards" unpaid volunteers ("slaves") for their work, with no charge or at zero cost to IBM. Over the years there have been over 50,000 such "slaves" (with badges) and over 100 of them were granted each week shortly after IBM had taken over or just before that. It gradually became less and less [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]. As more and more "slaves" quit participating IBM hopes to replace them with slop. There are many orphaned packages. Slop cannot do such jobs reliably, only sloppily.
This month IBM caused mass layoffs at Confluent. Last month it did the same at HashiCorp. IBM isn't good at keeping what it buys. █
