  • The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

    Our local cinema went all-in on this movie. Bespoke headrest covers, giant yellow ? cubes in the room, racks of Yoshi and Luma toys, full Mario livery on the corridors, a photo-op where you could sit in a little boat (was this even in the film?), and they even had a real life human announcer come in and give a welcome speech. Epic!

  • Blue Jays 4-2 to Start the Season

    In a sense, they're starting off where they left off: starting pitching is excellent, bullpen is shaky, hitting is good enough and could be better. Unfortuantely, their 4th starter, Cody Ponce, went down with an injury two innings into his first game. He's likely done for the season. The Jays also have Trey Yesavage, Shane Bieber, and Jose Berrios on the IL to start the season. They're enormously fortunate to have the depth they have - 5th starter Max Scherzer, 41 years old, allowed a single earned run - but even that's being stretched.

      I posted a page of Geminispace images every day for a year, and it's over now. [...]

      I enjoyed looking at randomly selected images. Well done, Geminauts, for posting things worth looking at.

      If I did it again I might skip news photos. Those pictures often felt like browsing a stock image web site. I preferred individuals choosing to show whatever interested them.

      The instance is up and accepting submissions in the usual way. There is a light, informal sync with ew0k's instance for the time being, but no-one should rely on that sync mechanism working.

      For the time being, feeds submitted to original Antenna instance will show up on mine. Hopefully, others will also be able to get their own Antenna instances up and some means of propagating posts between instances could be found, like in the old Usenet days.

    • Furget: get fursona details through gemini

      So Sleepycrow mentioned the `.well-known/fursona` scheme earlier, and I mentioned I couldn't find a way to read the data from a gemini server. Well, I made one. (See my previous post for the resolution to the TLS issue.)

      It's written in Lua, so it's small, basic and probably insecure in at least five different ways. For now it only supports gemini, but I don't know of anyone else serving their fursona information over gemini, so I only have my own server to test with. Adding support to fetch information from http (or ftp) servers is on the TODO list, but I'm not making any promises.
