To IBMers, IBM Has Failed and is Fast Becoming a Book of Jokes and One-Word Punchlines

The Little Book of Love

IBM CEO on the Future of the Tech Industry

Some time last night we mentioned how Albany had become like an "insider joke" or "inside joke" at IBM.

"The Albany site leadership is very fake and terrible," someone wrote later. "They have no idea what they are doing and they really do not care. They are very bad leaders. But really, they not there to lead. They not there to move the work forward or help IBM position. They only there to push their own career and personal standing inside IBM system. Good for them maybe, but no mistake — what they do is very intentional."

It's all nepotism apparently. With rumours of imminent mass layoffs there's also this discussion in recent hours. Somebody there has just mentioned Albany again.

I thought the one who keeps saying Albany is safe is sarcastic and means just a select few at Albany are safe (the elite crowd that can do nothing all day and yet never be marked low performers or laid off),

Albany may end up like those other complexes in the state.

Whether it's a troll or PR/HR, some people responded to someone who recently (allegedly) joined IBM:

Oh that's awesome to hear. Congrats to you! Plan in missing as many family events as possible to meet unrealistic deadlines , mainly for saying the you made them, regardless of value. Make good friends with your coworkers before they get kicked out, Cheer AK's cr-p like getting 5% RBA is better than getting 8% 401k match,. Keep repeating the latest buzz word so you feel like IBM is actually making something,, knowing full well its a catch phrase of nothing, Then wake up some morning after getting a raving review from your manager of how great you are, only to be told your position has been eliminated. Then you'll really know ho "sick" IBM is.

As another person put it: "They will use you to advance their own career not help your own. Never forget that. IBM is like prison rules. Never ever trust or accept any”free” favors - nothing here comes with no strings attached."

This is quite common at GAFAM. In another page someone mocked the use of chatbots not for entertainment but for running IBM. To quote: "There is no AI business. In Consulting, if a project manager uses ChatGPT to write a client email, they "tag" the entire deal as "AI". In Tech, they bundle watsonx into an ELA renewal for a 30 year mainframe client whether the client wants it or not and then "tag" the entire deal as "AI". This is where the $10 Billion AI business number they report to Wall Street every quarter comes from. It's all made up. Arvind should be in prison."

"I don’t think they will be happy with you saying this publicly," somebody later joked.

So IBM has managers who fake work and let chatbots talk to people.

How else can one make it obvious that IBM is circling down the drain?
